Super Bowl tickets, package for sale? Caveat emptor.

Super Bowl tickets, travel packages should be treated with caution, Massachusetts officials warn New England Patriot fans. Advisory says fans should buy Super Bowl tickets only from licensed resellers.

A section of the street that runs in front of Lucas Oil Stadium is temporarily renamed Giants Drive on Monday as preparations continue for Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. The New York Giants are scheduled to face the New England Patriots in the NFL championship game Feb. 5. Patriots fans dreaming of attending the Super Bowl should be careful about travel scams, false promises and misleading offers.

That's the message in an advisory by state officials Monday, one day after New England won the AFC championship to earn a spot in the Feb. 5 game in Indianapolis against the New York Giants.

Undersecretary of Consumer Affairs Barbara Anthony said fans should carefully review travel packages advertised online and make sure tickets and accommodations are fully guaranteed.

The advisory urged fans to only buy tickets from legitimate, licensed resellers, and to be wary of ads posted on sites such as Craigslist or eBay.

The office cited one online package, starting at nearly $5,000, advertising a hotel "minutes" from downtown Indianapolis. The hotel was, in fact, 17 miles from the stadium.
