Free coffee? Yes please.

Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, and restaurants and stores all across the United States are offering free or steeply discounted coffee to customers. But coffee purveyors aren't the only retailer celebrating their own pseudo-holidays with discounts and giveaways. Throughout the year, opportunities abound for free and reduced priced ice cream, cookies, and donuts.

But first, here's a list of some stores offering up caffeinated deals today.

In Kentucky, the oldest Black independent library is still making history

Whole Foods

The grocery store is celebrating all month long with 25 cent cups of 12 ounce coffee (only US stores)

Wawa

Panera Bread

For the entire month of September, rewards members have been able to get a free hot or ice coffee.

All year long, enterprising restaurants, stores and other establishments seize on a random holiday and offer free things to their masses. Here are some more dates you need to mark on your free food calendar.

National Ice Cream Day occurs every third Sunday of July and popular ice cream parlors and specialty shops across the country offer delicious deals on this day. Ben & Jerry's also gives scoops on Free Cone Day, which usually (but not always) occurs in April.

On National Donut Day, which occurs on the first Friday of June, vendors across the US give free donuts, including Krispy Kreme which gives customers a free donut of their choice and Dunkin' Donuts which offers guests a free donut with the purchase of any beverage.

National Cookie Day celebrates cookies in all their sugary glory on December 4th of every year. Though it’s not widely observed, free cookies await at Quiznos.

For the past 14 years, 7‑Eleven celebrates its birthday on July 11 by giving away free small Slurpee drinks.

Finally, on Veterans Day there are many restaurants and companies who extend a hearty thank you to US veterans by providing them with discounts or a free meal. Last year the list included, TGI Friday's, Applebee's, Golden Corral, Olive Garden, and Denny's.

Mark your calendar and make sure to always call ahead to verify locations, times, and participation as different franchises have different policies.
