Blogger Zoe Sugg sets new record for fastest-selling debut novel

Sugg's debut book, 'Girl Online,' now holds the record for the highest sales in its first week for a new writer in the UK.

This week, you don't have to be a YouTube enthusiast to recognize the name Zoe Sugg.

British blogger Sugg, who is famous for her blog and YouTube channel, both under the name Zoella, recently released her first novel, a young adult work titled “Girl Online.” And “Girl” is now the fastest-selling debut novel in the UK ever, selling more than 78,000 copies in its first week of sales, according to the Telegraph.

“Girl” follows a teenager who becomes involved with a US musician and becomes famous herself when her identity as an anonymous blogger is revealed.

“It’s such an amazing feeling,” Sugg said of the sales, according to the Telegraph. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has bought a copy of Girl Online. I love that so many of my viewers are enjoying the book! This year has been so exciting and this for sure is the icing on the cake.”

Sugg’s YouTube channel has more than 6 million subscribers. Her videos range in subjects from hairstyles and makeup to her time spent hanging out with friends.

According to the Guardian, Sugg plans to release a sequel to her novel this summer.
