'Gone Girl' writer Gillian Flynn joins Hogarth Shakespeare project
Flynn is the latest author to sign on for the series, in which contemporary writers will pen their takes on Shakespeare's stories.

Another acclaimed author has joined the Hogarth Shakespeare project: “Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn.
For the series, modern-day authors choose one of Shakespeare’s tales to retell, and Flynn says she’s selected “Hamlet.”
“Hamlet has long been a fascination of mine: murder, betrayal, revenge, deceit, madness – all my favorite things," Flynn said in a statement. "Add to that some of Shakespeare’s most intriguing, curious characters – from the titular brooding prince to rueful Ophelia – and what (slightly cheeky) writer wouldn’t be tempted to reimagine it?”
Flynn joins authors such as Margaret Atwood, Anne Tyler, and Tracy Chevalier on the project. Hogarth, an imprint of Random House, will begin to publish the new takes on Shakespeare’s stories in 2016, the 400th anniversary of the death of the Bard. Other writers’ choices include Atwood selecting “The Tempest,” Tyler choosing “The Taming of the Shrew,” and Chevalier taking on “Othello.”
