'Parks and Recreation' star Nick Offerman will release a memoir

“Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman has written a memoir and advice book that will be released Oct. 1.
The book by Offerman, who portrays small-government supporter and meat lover Ron Swanson on the NBC comedy, is titled “Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man's Fundamentals for Delicious Living.”
“It's meant to be entertaining,” he said of the book in an interview with USA Today. “I would like for them to take away some chuckles. And the idea in attempting the book in the first place is the notion that I might impart some advice to the reader. My dad always told me that the best way to learn is to make a mistake, so by that token I should have learned a great deal.”
Offerman, who noted he’s previously worked on scripts and written magazine articles, said he talked about his book with fellow “Parks” cast members Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari, who are also penning titles. (Check out our posts on Poehler and Ansari’s books here and here.)
“We're all experienced at entertaining people either with our visual physical work, or with our voices, but to simply rely on words on paper… but we're leaping over into a new arena here and I think all three of us are finding it really surreal,” he said.
The actor’s book is being released through the Penguin publishing imprint Dutton.
In addition to "Parks and Recreation," Offerman also appeared in this summer's film "We're the Millers" and will star in the movie "Paradise," which is being released Oct. 18.
