Recently I read The Sea of Grass by Conrad Richter. I couldn't put this book down and yet I didn't want it to end. It is short, too short at about 150 pages. No one writes like this any more today and the territory and people he describes no longer exist. The language is wonderful and I found myself transported to another era, when the Western territories of our country were raw and virgin land, and the settlers were just coming to nest upon it. Such good writing.
