A 300-pound granite stone dedicated to the memory of the late astronaut Neil Armstrong has been placed at the Cincinnati Observatory Center.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Armstrong's family also planted a black Tupelo tree there Sunday to mark the anniversary of his death. The observatory promotes astronomy and the study of science.

The Ohio native died last year at age 82, and the former Navy fighter pilot was later buried at sea. In 1969, he became the first man to walk on the moon.

In Kentucky, the oldest Black independent library is still making history

The memorial stone states: "By reaching for the stars, you might just land on the moon."
