'Unlocked' is a barely engaging spy thriller

Noomi Rapace's CIA agent character is clearly being positioned as a distaff Jason Bourne. The movie demonstrates that’s easier said than done.

There is a justifiable hankering now for female action stars. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman broke the mold big-time, at least in terms of commercial success, and there is even talk now – idle, no doubt – that Gadot should be cast as the next 007. And then there is Charlize Theron in “Atomic Blonde,” who can kick-punch with the best of the guys.

Into this field falls Noomi Rapace in “Unlocked,” whose CIA agent character is clearly being positioned as a distaff Jason Bourne. As this barely engaging spy thriller demonstrates, that’s easier said than done. Grade: C (Rated R for violence and language.)
