Kohl's will be open 24 hours a day until Christmas eve, starting today

Kohl's announcement to stay open for more than 100 hours straight until Christmas Eve is noteworthy and it may be a sign of a coming trend. We'll see if other major retailers follow in Kohl's footsteps in the coming weeks.

Procrastination has been a staple of the holiday shopping season since the day it began, but this year more than ever before, retailers are catering to the needs of last-minute shoppers. Stores across the country are extending their holiday shipping deadlines, and on the heels of these announcements, department store giant Kohl's has released its plans to stay open 24 hours between 6 a.m. on December 19 and 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

"Customers can rely on us around the clock for their last-minute gift giving solutions, and we are providing 24-hour access to Kohl’s stores right up to Christmas Eve," said Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief customer officer, in a statement this morning. "Kohl’s offers a deep assortment of national and exclusive brands to make gift giving easy and exciting this holiday. Customers will be inspired to select the perfect gift for everyone on their list and shop whenever it is most convenient for them."

While Kohl's is claiming to be offering "incredible savings opportunities" during this last-minute shopping bonanza, the "opportunities" its touting aren't anything new. The press release announcing this information highlighted the Yes2You Rewards program (which awards customers 1 point for every dollar they spend, and gives $5 back for every 100 points) and the Kohl's Charge Card, neither of which are featuring any remarkable deals.

Still, the fact that Kohl's will be open for more than 100 hour straight is noteworthy--and it may be the sign of a coming trend. If other major retailers follow in Kohl's footsteps this year, these kinds of holiday store hours could become the norm in years to come.
