'War and Peace' BBC adaptation will star Jim Broadbent, Gillian Anderson

The adaptation will also star actors Paul Dano and Lily James. It's being directed by Tom Harper of 'Peaky Blinders.'

A BBC miniseries adaptation of the classic novel “War and Peace” is moving forward.

The production has begun principal photography and is being directed by “Peaky Blinders” director Tom Harper, according to Deadline. Andrew Davies, who adapted the book “House of Cards” for the original British series and also adapted such books as “Bridget Jones’ Diary” for the screen, is writing the miniseries adaptation. 

The cast includes actors such as Jim Broadbent of “Paddington,” “Hannibal” actress Gillian Anderson, Paul Dano of “12 Years a Slave,” and “Downton Abbey” actress Lily James, among many others.

As we previously reported, the BBC’s Radio 4 broadcast a radio adaptation of “War and Peace” on New Year’s Day in the UK.

“War and Peace” has previously been adapted as a 1956 film starring Audrey Hepburn and Henry Fonda and a 2007 miniseries starring Malcolm McDowell and Clémence Poésy, among others.
