Previously unpublished Tennessee Williams draft centers on writers D.H. Lawrence and Katherine Mansfield

Scholar Gerri Kimber wrote that the untitled play 'seems never to have been discussed by scholars until now.' Williams' draft will reportedly be published in 'Katherine Mansfield Studies' in 2015.

A new section of an unpublished play by writer Tennessee Williams will be published in 2015. 

Gerri Kimber, a senior lecturer at the University of Northampton, wrote for the UK’s Times Literary Supplement that she found 10 pages of a work by Williams at the University of Texas at Austin. The play did not have a title but the first section was titled “The Night of the Zeppelin” and the second was named “Armistice.” The characters were writer D.H. Lawrence, his wife Frieda, and authors Katherine Mansfield, which Williams spells “Katharine,” and John Middleton Murry.

“The play is listed in ‘Tennessee Williams: A bibliography’ by Drewey Wayne Gunn as one of the holdings in Texas, and Margaret Bradham Thornton refers to it in a footnote in ‘Tennessee Williams: Notebooks,’” Kimber wrote for the Times Literary Supplement. “But the play seems never to have been discussed by scholars until now…. Never having been published, this piece has been almost entirely forgotten. Mansfield scholars will appreciate the fact that Tennessee Williams centred the scene “The Night of the Zeppelin” on her character, and relish this connection to an iconic American writer.”

According to NPR, the entire version will be published in “Katherine Mansfield Studies” in 2015.
