James Franco will direct and star in an adaptation of 'The Sound and the Fury'

James Franco will direct and star in a movie adaptation of 'The Sound and the Fury.'

Actor and director James Franco is tackling another literary classic. 

Franco is starring and directing in a movie version of William Faulkner’s 1929 novel “The Sound and the Fury.” Franco previously directed and starred in a 2013 adaptation of the Faulkner book “As I Lay Dying,” which played in New York and then was released via on demand. Franco also directed and starred in an adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy book “Child of God,” which was released in the US earlier this month. 

“The Sound and the Fury” will star Franco and actor Seth Rogen, who starred with Franco in the 2013 comedy “This Is the End,” and actor Danny McBride, who starred in “As I Lay Dying” and “This Is the End” with Franco, will both be in the movie, according to IndieWire, although their roles are not known. Actors Tim Blake Nelson, Joey King of “Fargo,” and Ahna O’Reilly of “CBGB” will also appear in the film.

“The Sound and the Fury” will premiere at the Venice Film Festival this September and Franco will also receive the Glory to the Filmmaker Award there, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Faulkner’s novel was previously adapted as a 1959 movie that starred Yul Brynner and Joanne Woodward.
