Last Chain on Billie is an excellent book on the plight of elephants in circuses, how they’re frequently – and sometimes constantly – abused to ensure that they perform their tricks. Billie is an elephant who survived for years in circuses before moving to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee where she’s now able to live out the rest of her life in dignity.
