The Guns at Last Light, Rick Atkinson's masterful account of World War II in Western Europe, is surely the definitive single-volume summary of that major part of the world-wide conflict. Atkinson's accounts of the massive military and civilian casualties and of atrocities committed by both sides should inspire readers to "war no more"!
