Robert A. Caro’s The Passage of Power is the fourth book of his continuing biographical work, "The Years of Lyndon Johnson." It deals essentially with Johnson’s frustrating period as vice-president, his ascendancy to the presidency following John Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963, and his adroit maneuvers to put his own stamp on the office through his political acumen and his vast knowledge of the legislative process.  Although the text runs to 605 pages, it is thoroughly engrossing and never becomes tedious.
