The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million, by Daniel Mendelsohn, is a fascinating story – part memoir, part investigative journalism, part history. Mendelsohn spans the globe and interviews the few Jews who survived the Holocaust in his family’s hometown of Bolechow, Ukraine. He seeks to learn more of his six relatives who stayed and perished, to give their lives and their memory substance and meaning.
