Over the hedge

A 4-year-old tries to make cents of it all.

February 13, 2009

My-4-year-old son, Craig, had seen a package of 100 plastic Indian figures that he decided he had to have while we were shopping in a store. We left without the purchase, but we returned later on because I had decided to buy the toys for him.

As I sat in the car, I handed him the money and told him, "Here's a dollar for the Indians and a nickel for the taxes."

Then, I sent him into the store to make his purchase.

A few minutes later he happily emerged from the store with the bag of Indians in his hand, but also a bit perplexed as he proclaimed to me, "I found the Indians, but I couldn't find the taxes."
