Greensound

A poem.

March 17, 2008

'The sweetest music is the music of what happens.'
Finn McCool, legendary hero of old Ireland

The Irish ear
loves to hear,
or rather, feel
the peal of bells.

Sparrow chirp,
tea slurp;
someone's joy
a crying boy.

Gull yap
over wave slap –
can't get enough
of that.

Cows' lowing,
geese going,
leaves in
the wind.

A child's laugh,
the poet's word,
the old tongue
overheard.

No fool
that Finn McCool:
said the best tune
is what's doin'.
