Stockholm, Sweden – Sixty nations and international aid groups to attend a donors conference on Lebanon.

Seoul, South Korea – South Korean Red Cross set to send first shipment in government-backed effort to provide 100,000 tons of rice and other goods to flood-stricken North Korea. Other donors have been deterred by nation's recent missile launches.

Saturday, Sept. 2:

Kinshasa, Congo – Dikembe Mutombo, a Congolese who plays in the National Basketball Association, opens a US$29 million hospital – half paid with his own money – dedicated to his late mother.
