What's hot - and not - in fall fashion

This fall, as fashionable high school and college students get ready to return to school, they will be tossing their cargo pants and midriff-baring duds in favor of sleek blazers and equestrian-inspired gear. Or so parents hope.

According to a survey of young trendsetters by Euro RSCG Worldwide, an advertising agency, students will be exchanging thigh-high boots, big hoop earrings, and bright colors for high-heeled loafers, 'Dynasty'-esque hair, and clothes in darker shades - brown, black, and navy.

Looking at the broader trends suggested by the survey's findings, Marian Salzman of Euro RSCG says: "Taken together, our findings point to a move away from faddishness and toward products and fashions and styles with more enduring appeal."

WHAT'S IN:

The mod look, brunettes, gold, blazers, leather, Tom Ford-designed Yves Saint Laurent, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Audrey Hepburn slides, pearls, denim miniskirts, and Lacoste brand clothing.

WHAT'S OUT:

The hippie look, blond hair, silver, jean jackets, tweed, clothes with logos (except for Lacoste), aviator sunglasses, turquoise, short pants, small bags (Fendi Baguettes), and body glitter.
