Returning home

(for Eva)

When, on crystal-clear nights,

the Milky Way clouds the center of the sky

and the universe responds to my awe

with shooting stars,

I am often reminded

of the joy I see, returning home

when you come running,

small arms and soft cheeks

toward me.
