At the shore

July 5, 2000

The blue tiaras

of the sea

sparkle

in the morning

sun.

The sea rises

and falls

in slow breaths

just

strong enough

to keep

the gulls

aloft.

They drift

with still wings,

as if to show

that all things

can float on air,

as if

the magic

of the sea

reduced their wings

to elegant,

superfluous things.
