Following in the footsteps of a leader

January 12, 2000

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday should be more than a day off, says the son of the famous civil rights leader. Martin Luther King III wants to inspire young people to fulfill his father's legacy.

One way they can do that is by participating in the Do Something Kindness & Justice Challenge. From Jan. 17 to 28, students are encouraged to perform acts of kindness and to stand up for what's right in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods.

Since 1998, more than 2 million participants have proved that small acts can make a big difference.

Young people and the adults in their lives can learn more about this youth-leadership program at Do Something's Web site: www.dosomething.org.
