The day before the trees bloom

April 19, 1999

The day before the trees bloom

there is a pale aura that they wear,

a hint of red budding-to-be,

a soft scent in the air.

The day before the trees bloom

their fuzzy lines seem faint,

like sketches by an artist

before applying paint.

The day before the trees bloom

their branches turn to smoke,

before they fill the sky

with green maple, leafy oak.
