When the Rush- Around Me Stops

there is time to see
mica glittering in the gravel
the green iridescent fly
the black velvet spider
with her turquoise eyes
the mountain laurel, each cup
crenelated from a single petal
time to hear hung-out sheets
snap in the summer breeze
crows cawing community
time to enter the near country.
