Stepping Outside The Lawn Club

May 9, 1997

Holding my fists together to show

what I mean by big, I ask Marion,

the woman who sweeps the green clay

courts after each tennis match,

how I can find viridian artichokes

to stuff. Go right and around the corner

to De Rose's Grocery, where she buys

strawberries the size of pullet eggs -

an hour of labor for a taste of spring.
