Wind and Sun

November 18, 1996

Wind and sun have dressed

the lake in sequins,

flashing and sparking.

Not merely recumbent,

the lake is engaged in dance.

The gentle clashing of leaves

in the trees provides tambourines,

as they sway their supple trunks,

shedding birds like quarter notes

darting in arpeggios.

Now the wind stamps its foot,

and all the lake's sequins shimmer.
