You Are Holding Us (Prayer of new Haitian converts)

November 7, 1996

All my life

I'd been nothing but a weed;

but the other day You pulled me up

and planted me in Your garden,

and I became a flower.

Lord,

one doesn't gather mangoes

from an avocado tree

and one can't find maize

on a banana tree.

We behave according to what we are.

Help us to be what we should be

in order to produce the kind of fruit

that You need.
