Blueberry Logic

August 15, 1996

From the soft soil of thicket bottoms

we found the plump orbs, sumptuous

with juice - familiar plunder

from child years.

Ripe with that incentive, we changed

destinations and in an easing of time

the indelible color sluiced

over our tongues, fruits plopped into cups

we'd carried hiking.

Packs undisturbed on our backs,

we returned later to loiter in camp

as from some childhood spree - vivid

in the ways of revival

and overshadowed with purple.
