Pig Races - County Fair

November 28, 1995

A churning of trotters flashing,

they surge across the sawdust,

their round, urgent bodies

driving for the single cookie -

the winner's prize

And we clap our palms together

for them, their wild, floppy ears

and small, quirky tails in flight,

for no reason but the charm of it all,

all eager pinkness almost airborne.
