WORTH NOTING ON TV

August 5, 1994

* SATURDAY

ABC in Concert Country (ABC, 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.): The very existence of a weekly series like this on a major network is an indication - if another one is needed - of country music's mainstream success. This edition offers a roster of successful figures in the genre - Doug Stone, Tracy Byrd, the Gibson/Miller Band, Joe Diffie, and John Berry - who join host Billy Dean.

Joe Diffie is seen in the unusual video of his current album ``Third Rock From the Sun'' - a big hit - and he talks about some future projects. Stone is seen performing ``Small Steps'' and ``Never Knew Love'' in Houston, and ``Addicted to a Dollar'' at the Pyramid in Memphis. Also in Houston, Byrd delivers the title track of his new album, ``No Ordinary Man,'' and the comic number ``Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and Famous.'' He is interviewed from his tour bus.

In a reverse twist on the mainstreaming of country music, Dave Gibson and Blue Miller of the Gibson/Miller Band moved from rock to country, and in fact were named Best New Group of 1994 by the Academy of Country Music. They are interviewed by host Dean.

From Panama City Beach, Fla., John Berry performs his smash ``Kiss Me in the Car'' and the ballad ``Your Love Amazes Me.'' * SUNDAY

Made in the USA (NBC, 7-8 p.m.): It could be design, it could be a new concept, it could be an invention, but the theme that unifies the products and places dealt with in this show is the impact they have had on consumers and on how Americans do business. American ingenuity is the theme running through this look at places like the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., the Louisville Slugger baseball-bat factory, even McDonald's ``Hamburger U'' in Chicago and the Barbie Museum in Palo Alto, Calif. (Yes, it's big business, and has had a big impact on American consumer habits.) The background and personalities are explored as the program tells the story of these enterprises. TV personality Robert Urich is host.
