The Young Tree

January 12, 1994

Excitement runs the length of the young tree.

It is about to bloom. What ecstasy!

It is about to know what it will be.

It is grown up, or will be, any minute.

It will have apples, pears, or cherries in it.

The several blossoms and the buds begin it.

It stands tall, boughs spread out, devoting

all it can to budding and to floating

sweet perfume. The other trees are noting.
