Up Owls Head pinnacle

July 26, 1984

There is, of course more than one trail up our many-sided little mountain.

I have heard

warmly discussed the

merits/toils/rewards

of the daring piton-aided climb

over the sliding rocky face

with vistas gained at

each breathing place

against the slow forest path

with mosquitoes whispering

all around rare wildflowers and

the cool wading in

down-rushing streams.

Both will come at last

to the same summit.

Companioning there

the climbers speak

only of the one beauty

spread before them.
