Unity

March 9, 1983

In the union of leaf and branch There is a mystery, an unseen bond, Inviolate, unbroken. Who would divide

The vine from the branch,

The pendulous fruit from the plant?

The blossom from the flowering bush?

Here is the joining of a pallid petal

With a spray, a tendril with a twig:

A oneness till the winds have stripped the bough,

The bole, the bark, but not the rooted tree.
