Tomorrow's world . . . whose?

Need we fear that repressive regimes will someday take over the world? The Bible has comfort for us. In Isaiah the Almighty is represented as saying, ''I have sworn by myself . . . That unto me every knee shall bow.'' n1

n1 Isaiah 45:23

It's not naive to believe this and similar Biblical forecasts of total divine rule, because they rest on unalterable spiritual truth. God isn't only our loving Father, who comforts and heals us. He is infinite, beneficent Lawgiver to all His creation - and the true nature of His creation is spiritual, indestructible, expressing His nature as Spirit. God never causes nor permits anything that would oppose His precise rule. As the one loving divine Mind, He creates and controls His ideas in perpetual harmony. As Mary Baker Eddy n2 states, ''The universe is filled with spiritual ideas, which He evolves, and they are obedient to the Mind that makes them.'' n3

Of course, this isn't what the physical senses see around us or on television news programs. Tanks rolling across frontier fences, freedom's voice silenced by firing squads, religion driven underground by persecution - these and other evils clearly deny divine Love's peaceful government. They deny it, but do they, in profound fact, destroy or even mar it? Can even the most vicious material conditions touch God's spiritual creation or forever conceal its harmony?

Christian Science looks deep into the Bible for light on our human predicament. It discovers in the inspired pages the logic of our full and inevitable salvation from human misrule.

This spiritual Science shows that we aren't locked tragically into matter and materialism, as the physical senses insist. God, eternal Spirit, has created all , and He expresses His own nature in everything He makes. True creation, then, is spiritual not material, and cannot deviate from divine harmony. The view of creation portraying man as a destructible physical being living in a physical universe and subject to lethal matter, is a lie, a counterfeit of the truth.

As we prayerfully and progressively give up the erroneous view for spiritual truth, we're healed of bodily ills and sick social attitudes. Communing with our Father in prayer and living by His laws found in the Bible, enable us to be better neighbors. And as individual spiritual awakening takes place more widely, nations must in turn become wiser in formulating policies, more understanding of other nations, stronger in the qualities of kindness, cooperation, and equity, which make for peace.

Christ Jesus said, ''Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'' n4 Free from what? From belief in everything unlike God, good, and therefore from the domination by evil that such belief permits.

n4 John 8:32.

What gives evil its apparent power over us, when good in fact is almighty? Our belief in its reality and might. Why do we fear matter and its supposed conditions? Because we credit matter with substance and power, when Spirit is the only real substance and is omnipotent. Mrs. Eddy goes to the root of our need. ''When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error.'' n5

n5 Science and Health p. 368.

The eventual total healing of false concepts of God and man, and of the suffering these concepts cause, is inevitable, though the entrenched forces of materialism will compel us all to stand uncompromisingly for Spirit - to put off sin in our individual lives. Spiritual progress is already taking place as the result of awakening within individual hearts to the kingdom of heaven, spiritual harmony. When we go to our Father in prayer, and He heals us of sin, lack, or unloving attitudes, we prove His truth to be supreme. And we bring nearer the day when people everywhere recognize and obey the rule of divine Love. DAILY BIBLE VERSE Thine is the Kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.
