The Onion satirical tweets: Capitol police react

The Onion: Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider says the police are investigating tweeter feeds reporting false information concerning the Capitol.

The Onion's satirical Twitter feed offended some and scared others with messages about a disturbance at the US Capitol Building earlier today.

Capitol Police were not amused by tweets and an article written by the satirical newspaper The Onion reporting that members of Congress had taken a group of schoolchildren hostage.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider says the police are investigating tweeter feeds reporting false information concerning the Capitol.

She says conditions at the Capitol, where members are currently on vacation, are normal.

The Onion tweets and story spoke of members congressional leaders, "brandishing shotguns and semiautomatic pistols," taking a class of visiting schoolchildren hostage and threatening to kill them if they didn't get $12 trillion in cash.
