Help! But Don't Hurry

A poem

April 16, 2008

I'm being held prisoner
by this cluster of poems
that came bursting in
in the middle of the night,
closing off my mind
to everyday concerns,
compelling me to write
as never before, asking
no ransom, but demanding
that I pay them strict
attention, skimp on sleep,
neglect my meals, march
to their drumbeat across
broad stretches, and now,
I'm beginning to think
we'd really miss each other.
