Review: 'The Edge of Heaven'

Intermittently powerful drama explores a cross-cultural estrangement.

May 24, 2008

The German-Turkish connection is mined in this intermittently powerful, sexually graphic drama about a professor who travels to Istanbul to locate the daughter of his father's girlfriend, a prostitute. The German director Fatih Akin was born in Hamburg of Turkish parentage, and this film displays his sensitivity to cross-cultural estrangements. Grade: B. (Not rated.)
