A book from Obama's sister

April 3, 2009

It worked out really well for her brother (both "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope" are global bestsellers), so it's probably not surprising that Obama's sister is trying her hand at book writing as well.

Maya Soetoro-Ng, sister of President Obama, has signed a deal with Candlewick Press for her picture book "Ladder to the Moon."  According to Publishers Weekly, the book "imagines what lessons Soetoro-Ng’s four-year-old daughter might have learned from her grandmother (Soetoro-Ng’s and Obama’s mother) if the two had ever met."

Soetoro-Ng is a writer and educator with a PhD in international comparative education. She is a high-school history teacher at La Pietra: Hawaii School for Girls in Honolulu. She also teaches night classes at the University of Hawaii.

"Ladder to the Moon" will be her first book.  No date has yet been set for its release.
