The White Mouse, by Russell Braddon, is the 1956 biography of resistance fighter extraordinaire Nancy Wake. Braddon tells her tale in a fun and engaging way, as if Wake herself were telling her tales at your kitchen table. Best of all is his closing chapter, in which he recounts how difficult it was to pry information from his subject, who didn’t seem to think that what she did was in any way extraordinary!
