For a thought-provoking read try The Lifecycle of Software Objects by award-winning author Ted Chiang. A novella (only 150 pages with illustrations) this short work examines not only what artificial intelligence is and how humans relate to it, but the nature of love and commitment. I was astounded by what the author was able to accomplish in so few pages. This would be a great choice for an open minded book group looking for a shorter selection.
