Windy City: A Novel of Politics, by Scott Simon is a joy to read. It confirms all the things we think we know about how big city politics work, about those who do that work, about City Hall. In this novel, the mayor of Chicago dies suddenly and mysteriously; the city’s 50 aldermen convene to name a successor and the police chief must solve the mystery.
