Sudden Downpour

Tumble-down rain drums
on the thirsting earth
raising plumes and fountains,
exciting my apple trees to leafy
chatter. Torrents are flung
at my head as I run homeward
and a skein of wild geese abandon sky
to shelter in the grove.
Falling silver shines on everything...
and one touch of color where
the storm is carrying away
a red kite.
