Glowing Eyes

When most leaves have fallen
and evenings grow cool
we pick two pumpkins
and pull up two stools
We turn round our pumpkins
to find the right spots
and draw our designs
with little black dots
And then we begin
my mother and me
to carve eyes in pumpkins
so that they can see
