Sea Otters

July 27, 2006

Sea otters banquet on clams they have opened,
In undulant comfort, while lying supine;
Long before Romans at well-laden tables,
Lay with their colleagues and spouses to dine;
And long after Romans had tucked up their togas
And left all their feasting by history's back door,
Sea otters lolling in well-fitted parkas
Are cracking and slurping and reaching for more.
