After the steamy day
after the sharp thunder claps
after the lightning flash
after the cloudbursts of rain
after the blackened sky
and waves of water like surf
after the rattle of hail
after electricity stops
after the darkness at 3
after the flooding streets
after hubcaps are immersed
after windshields fog up
after the rain's sudden stop
after the sun scorches the west
after a cool breeze and soft dark
we wait for a shower of stars.
