Keeping Track: opinions on tax plan

One tax preparer's poll calls Bush proposal fair

March 5, 2001

A few days before President Bush went on the airwaves Tuesday to explain his plan to cut taxes by $1.6 trillion over 10 years, taxpayers surveyed by H&R Block passed judgement on its fairness.

The financial-services firm, which assisted 19.2 million taxpayers last year, polled visitors to its website (hrblock.com) over the Feb. 17 - 18 weekend and received 1,256 responses (below).

It has also announced plans to conduct similar polls weekly during the tax season, continuing with less frequency over the coming months as the tax-cut plan is debated. The company's site also offers a detailed look at the proposed new tax rules.
