An Aug. 1 article on Afghanistan (page 8) should have noted that at least nine recent books by Russian, Afghan, and Western authors on the Soviet-Afghanistan war say that Ahmad Shah Masood, present-day commander of anti-Taliban forces, collaborated with the invading Soviets.
