How to improve your reception? Turn off the TV.

April 19, 2000

If your most-frequently read magazine is TV Guide, it's time to join thousands of Americans for the sixth annual National TV-Turnoff Week, which starts April 24.

The organization sponsoring the event, TV-Free America, claims Americans spend an average of 40 percent of their free time watching television. At that rate, the average American will watch nine years' worth of television by age 65.

More than 2,000 studies have linked TV violence to real-life violence. Promoters are hoping the event will encourage more creative activities.
