Cold-tolerant veggies and flowers

September 1, 1999

Gardening doesn't have to stop when summer ends. Kale, parsnips, rutabagas, salsify, and spinach will survive hard freezes. Vegetables that survive frost but not hard freezes include beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, lettuce, onions, peas, radishes, and turnips. Cold-tolerant flowers are dame's rocket, forget-me-nots, foxglove, hollyhock, lupines, and pansies.
